This is a promotional poster design project I created for an art show held at School of Visual Arts, which was based around all things involving psychedelic typography.
After doing much research and studying the mostly hand drawn, illustrated psyche posters of the late sixties and early seventies, I decided to create a design that was completely hand drawn.
This project required making a promotional poster for an art gallery show based on a specific era of typography and design. I based my poster of the Psychedelic Era, and used design characteristics that were important and defined the era. Within my piece, I included characteristics of wavy lines, distorted type, and a complementary color scheme to give an illuminating quality. I helped bring a more contemporary feeling by illustrating a flat, graphic face and head. Although this look was not appropriate during the Psychedelic late 60’s, it is currently used throughout modern graphic design.
